Default Barrel

Glad no one was hurt. I have seen one other case where the barrel did that, it was a Remington 870 barrel that got a plastic build up in it from the filler they use in buckshot loads, the end of the barrel blew back like a banana peel. Pay close attention to the report and recoil of the shot, I know, it's easy to say when you have a flight of ducks coming in.

Default bore sighter

A friend sent me some picts. of someone who failed to remove their bore sighting tool before test fireing. The barrel was, as Richard said, pealed back like a bananna all the way back to the chamber. This was just due to someone not PAYING ATTENTION. Gun safety is something that was drilled into me by quite a few adults, when growing up, starting with my Grandfather who was in WWII. Inspection of a firearm before use is second nature now and this starts with making sure the barrel is clear and it is unloaded. I am intrested to know if these shotgun mishaps are due to repeted fireing use when this happened or if people are useing them on more than one hunt before cleaning/inspection.

I think it was on his either second volley or third. . .and he said he cleaned his gun before the trip.

My buddy emailed, called, and faxed Federal about what happened. After a email that included my original thread, he got a call in about 30 minutes.

They want the barrel sent along with the original box the shells came in. . .I'll post what Federal does.

Default Update from Federal

My buddy got a call back from Federal saying that they are willing to pay 1/2 the cost of the barrel, but they get to keep the barrel. They said they couldn't say why for sure it did it, maybe a loose choke? Not sure why they would want to keep the barrel?

He thanked the gentleman and told him he would like to talk to someone else, so he gave him the name and number to his boss.

He has a call in, I'll keep everyone informed of how the next call goes. So far, he has been pleased with how Federal has handled this situation. . and we're all still glad the situation didn't result in injury.

The friend that I referred to in an earlier post on this thread used Federal slugs also and was offered the same deal. He told Federal no - he'd rather keep the barrel as a conversation piece. I don't know what happened after that. I'll see if I can get a pic of his barrel and post it; it's like nothing I've ever seen before.

Well Clint, he didn't have to talk to one of the guys in charge today for long. Federal is PAYING FOR FULL REPLACEMENT OF THE BARREL. He said both guys were very professional.
