Hi Randy,
Sorry for the delayed response, we were out of town for the holiday.
RDX requires two land retrieves one 60 yard and one 40 yard. The dog must heel off lead to the circle and be steady to wing and shot and absolutely deliver the bird to hand. If the dog is successful on land they head to the water..they must again be steady to wing and shot and do a triple in the water..a 60 yard, a 40 yard and a 20 yard. All birds must be delivered to hand. If this portion of the test is completed successfully the dog must be taken from the area and then heeled back in off lead for a blind retrieve. No shot is fired for the blind retrieve.
RD is similar except the distances are shorter. Land is a 40 yard retrieve and a 20 yard. Dog must be steady to wing and shot and deliver the bird to hand. Water is just a 40 yard and a 20 yard, no blind retrieve. Dog must be steady to wing and shot and deliver to hand.
Yes, you can enter both tests for the same day. Many people do just that to ensure they pass at least one of them. Just a side note, there are only two Grayangel weims that have the RDX title, our Kodi (Blue's mom) and Walt Peter's CH. Grayangel Hayes, SH. RDX, VX (Blue's dad). Blue is not even close to being that steady yet!!
The NRD is the easiest test.. a 20 yard land retrieve, the dog can be collared and onlyhas to deliver the bird to the circle. The water is also a 20 yard retrieve and again the dog can be collared and only has to deliver the brid to the circle.
These tests would be pretty simple for the retrievers but for pointing dogs, it's quite an accomplishment and there are not that many weims with RDX emblazoned after their names! It's always a fun day and this is one of my favorite tests to train for..
Hope you can make it in September!
Bmac, hope to see you on the 17th! If you are in the mood, we can always use an extra set of hands! We will arrive the night before to get things set up for the next day..
