A run in the snow (pics)

It just won't go away up here in Michigan!! More snow coming down right now. . .6 to 12 expected.

I took my weim out the other day for a run and another weim from down the street was out. She had some fun showing off, chasing boys, and getting in a CAT fight.

Great pics! Our snow is almost gone here in SE Minn after a few abnormal 65 degree days. I'm sure we haven't seen the last of Old Man Winter yet though. It's just his annual cruel joke that he likes to play on us. The dogs look like they're in "hog heaven" - it does my heart good. Off to the dentist - later.

I feel your pain on the snow being a Michigander myself! After being the event secretary for our SMWC hunt test and experiencing every bit of bad weather that mother nature threw at us...I am anxiously hoping for spring! :D

Nice photos..were you at any of the Pine Hill sportmen's club farms???

Camille,

We were at Haymarsh Hunt Club up around Big Rapids. . .Morley actually.

I have one of Grayangel Ulla's pups. . .nice to see another MI weim owner aboard. :)

It is indeed a small world as my weim female is Grayangel Kodiak II and her pup is sired by Grayangel Hayes!

How is your pup doing in the field? I talk to Jim Fleming your pups breeder all the time and I know he will be interested in how he/she is doing. I hear about your pups sibling Tank and he is quite the confirmation star!

I asked about your hunt club because we belong to the Pinehill Kennel and sportsmen club. They have three farms in the Ionia area that we hunt often..I know many of their members are in the GR area.

Happy Hunting!! I guess it's getting close to quiet time right now and almost time to slow down for spring.. :)

I am not a member at Haymarsh, just know a member there, snow was about a foot deep up there at the time. I usually go to a preserve up around the Clare area, I have two friends that own preserves up there, one public the other a "just for friends" place. I also have quite a few places to hunt wild birds up in that area during the season, so the drive is worth it.

My pup is doing great and really shocked me last fall. . .the first preserve hunt in September she was just kinda doing ok and waiting to retrieve every bird after my friends older GSP pointed and we shot. . . then all of a sudden on a hunt on October 9th she "turned the corner" and started backing naturally, tracking. . .wish she would have done that during her NAVHDA NA test, but that turned out to be a hormonal coming into heat thing. (the judges said that she acted like she was coming into heat, she wasn't due for two more months, 5 days later. . . .) It's like they say, it always happens at the worst time.

I also got her out duck hunting just for the heck of it. . .first time out, she made two retrieves from the water and one from land. . .she also pointed a grouse along the pond that I was not ready for. . .I think she was trying to tell me something. :D

We have plenty to work on this year, I don't think that ever stops. . .I don't think I am going to enter any tests this year and just wait until next year for SH/MH and NAVHDA UT. . . .oh yeah, and she is going to try her luck in the show ring as well and she if she can do like her brother. . .she'll be at the Birch Run show on April 9/10.

I see you in NAVHDA as well, I know a couple of guys in the SEMI NAVHDA chapter through the m-s.com website. . .Jeff Malone and the other Vizsla guys among others. . .I know most of them by the user names. ;)

Sounds like she is doing very well! I am sure that Jen has probably told you that Ulla has come into heat as often as every 4 months..I hope your girl does not do that!

Please introduce yourself to me at Birch Run. My female will be showing open bitch trying to finish (she only needs two single points) and I will be showing my pup in the 9-12 month dog. I am praying that Kodi does finish because I hate confirmation with a passion. I put her in and she won a couple of majors and before I knew it..I was stuck in finishing her.. I am showing the pup to bide my time until she finishes. I would much rather be trudging through any field, any type of weather with my dogs and shotgun.. but I will see the thing through!

I am going to run NAVHDA NA with our pup in Muskegon. I have never done that before so I may ask for lots of advice before our test in June. The pup is amazingly talented..stylish point, nice big run but he is a pup and we don't really push our dogs until they show some talent. He amused the gallery in JH last weekend by playing with the bird..throwing it in the air 15 feet or so and then catching it..Nice huh?? It went on for about 5 minutes. the judges were laughing so hard they almost missed his brace mate on point. I think he's ready for some serious training. He did pass because he pointed with style and held but once he gets the bird...it's a heckuva show.

After NA we won't do anything further with him except hunt until we have lots more training.. probably only senior though not master and not until next spring 2006. nice to chat with you..see you at Birch Run! :D

Camille,

The NA test is pretty fun, but you have to practice for it a little bit. . .the tracking part is the biggest part not passed. I am sure your pup will do fine. . .Skyler was doing fine the week before the hormones kicked in and then she didn't want to track, just wanted to search the field for birds. Also, get your pup in the water to retrieve a bumper and have fun doing it. . .the pup doesn't have to retrieve the bumper at the test, just show that he will go in water. I am pretty sure it won't be a problem with a weim:)

I forget you Jen said was going to be showing Sky. . but will find out as it gets closer.

What day are you doing the NAVHDA NA test? I am going to be over there a day or two. . .I will try to go the day your are running to support the gray dogs.
