Has any one used the camoclad shotgun camo kits. I was thinking about geting one but I don't know how they look or how hard it is to put on.

If you mean the cloth duck tape kind I used some on a stainless thermos once. It held up quite awhile before peeling.
My cousin used the stretchy kind that is a tight fit for a particular gun. He said he didn't like the feel it gave the gun and took it off after part of a season duck hunting.

Yeah I think it's a stickey vinly.
I bought some camo clad when it first came out many years ago to cover my boat motor. It was a vinyl and had a shine to it. I never used it so can't say it was a problem. I don't know if they have fixed the shine or not.

dont take this wrong, why do you want to tape up your gun ?
think of it this way,how many years have ducks/geese been hunted WITHOUT camo guns ? unless your gun is shiny, you dont need it.

I have hunted crows without a camo gun, camo yourself up well enough and you don't need to camo the gun.

Im having trouble finding the link I have saved, but I do know u use spray paint, most use avalone, or krylon. spray the base coat wait till it dries, for the camo u can do 2 different techniques both look good just depends on what effect your looking for. The first you can use a sniper veil(camo net that has real fine holes like a mosquito net) and pull across gun tight spay a few shots with paint let dry and remove, replace netting in different spot and continue till u have the desired effect. The 2nd option is almost the same but use leaves or grass instead of the veil. Before you start any of this clean the entire gun with rubbing alcohol, let dry and tape off anything you dont want painted(action) put somethging such as a cotton ball in the muzzle, and use a fine grit sandpaper to rough up the wood or plastic so the paint sticks good. I will keep looking for the link so you can see pics, but that is about it. hope it helps, Jim

I had my old 870 express camo dipped two years ago and it came back looking like a brand new gun.
A place in Quebec, Canada did it for me. BuckExpert.
I have attached the pictures of it when it came back below.
I am thinking about sending them my old Mossberg 500 now as well.

Mav,
They did a really nice job on that as it looks like it came that way from the factory.
For waterfowl I used a camo 835 and later Browning stalkers that are dull black overall. Even my Browning Gold Hunter has the matte blue finish.
I always thought the lack of a blued shine on the barrel was the biggest trick as that's whats waving around most and flashing your presense.
Maybe just taping the barrel with camo tape would work with crows and be easy to reverse too. The stuff I tried had a dull finish and was more like fine burlap material than duct tape.

I tried everything out there with my 870 before I finally dropped the $$$ on a new camo'd turkey gun. All the duct tape types leave a sticky residue that you have to remove later...even the ones that say they don't. The sock types work OK with semi-autos but not with pumps. The last I tried was the shrink wrap type which worked out OK but you have to be very precise and careful to not scratch your weapon or leave any of it hanging because it's really loud and crackly if you catch any edges with your gloves, etc. I needed more tape than they gave me so I used some double sided stuff I had left from a window insulating kit, and it seemed better than the stuff they include with their kits. You can actually have your gun camo'd for around $200 at various places. I know Gander will sub it out to some firm to do it. Which I thought of doing...I liked the new gun idea better though.

I like like the looks of that 870 you had dipped, how much did it coast to do that. I might just go and have mine dipped.

I think it is between 200 and 250 Canadian.
It made it a new gun for me and was definitely worth it.
Have a look at their web site.
