hey yall, I shot a couple ducks this weekend and one of them had little tiny white worms? or something in the meat. they were all through it. almost as big as a pencil lead. They were not moving or anything. I threw the whole thing out did not wanna take any chances. Anyone ever heard of this? or know what it was. A friend said they seen the same thing 2 years ago and fish and game said it was probably a parasite that shows up during the summer and by the middle of winter will go away? i dunno just wondering what it was.

I have seen that on birds and what we found it to be was maggots from a wounded bird that could still fly.
But as you said it could be something else

White roundworm (10 cm long) can be found in the intestines. Small, fine hairworms can live in the gut walls. Other worms, about 1 cm long, can be found in the lower region of the gut. Most of the worms I have seen in the gizzards are kind or a reddish color and if I remember are also a type of roundworm.
Haven't heard of anything throughout the meat though. If you get another like it throw it in a ziplock for US Fish and Game. They used to do autopsies on all the birds shot in a couple of areas I have hunted. As far as I have heard the worms shouldn't make any difference to you (other than the creepy factor) but always better to err on the side of safe! If you get another and have F&G check it out; please give us a post on the findings.
It is called rice breast. The parasite's correct name is sarcocystosis. Here is a link to Delta Waterfowl where it is explained.

The thing about those rice worms is that we generally only know they're in the meat if we skin or breast out our ducks..... When we pluck a duck...... Good thing it takes so long to cook a duck, kills every thing in there.
But yup, they're disgusting.
I'd say most of us don't want to dig too deeply into what kind or how many parasites are in many of the fish and game we harvest and eat.
Yup, coyotes DO gotta eat. So do the 'coons, crabs and crawfish.
