If you were afield with your retriever and came upon some hunters who had no dog or boat and asked u if you could have the dog retrieve the birds they shot out on the pond what would u do ?

As I've always done - show off my dog's talent and happily send them for the retrieve.

I have pointing dogs and I always love to show off their blind retrieve abilities! They may not be in the same league as real retrievers but they do quite well. Cam

Its your duty, a conservation effort is for everyone.
If you do not find the bird for him, he will just shoot another.
If you help him, you just reduced his brag.

I always help. It's what the dog loves to do. But first I make sure it's safe to send the dog. Gotta look out for the gators around here, any dog is susceptable to a gator, but my little buddy looks like an extremely fat nutria to a big old 12 footer....

yes they are irresponsible in not having our #1 conservational tool and having to use my dogs. Don't have to worry about anything that will eat mine. I did have some hunters last snow goose hunt have 3 birds down about 600 yards down in a lake. they told me about a hundred and got Red there but couldn't find them the lake was frozen se we able to walk out further and get Red to them From where I originally sent Red from we Ranged the distance and was beyond what my range finder could measure. They sure mis-marked the distance on on their birds.

Well, it usually doesn't take much convincing of Sky, she would probably be upset if I didn't let her go get it. . .and I really can't be mad at the people, I've known people before that had a trip planned and something happened to the dog or owner that was supposed to go.
