This week on Gundog Central we're featuring a brand new contributor to the site, welcome Layton Norwood! Layton's written a short story called 'The First Point' and it's paired with this beautiful artwork from Kate Hall. You can read Layton's article using this link : https://gundogcentral.com/articles/6122/the-first-point

About Layton Norwood : Layton Norwood was raised in a family where dogs outnumbered people and the stories flew faster than the birds. From cattle dogs to coonhounds to bird dogs, there was always something barking, baying, or pointing around the place. He grew up on a steady diet of Louis L’Amour, Elmer Kelton, Robert Ruark, and secondhand tales told loud around the dining table. These days, he’s based in Texas and still chasing stories — and bird dogs — with the hope that his writing finds a home with folks who know the joy of a good dog and a better yarn.

About Kate Hall : Kate Hall is an outdoor artist who resides on an Angus cattle farm in Tennessee, where she began hunting at an early age. During her 13 years as a flight attendant, Kate visited 27 countries and all 50 states. She now spends her time traveling across the country in search of rising trout and upland birds with her husband and their English Setter. In his first two seasons they hunted on public lands in MT, KS, SC, AL, NC, KY and TN for quail, ruffed grouse, sharptail grouse, woodcock, pheasant, prairie chickens, and hungarian partridge. Upland hunting has enriched Kate's life and influences much of her colored pencil work.

Hi,
I’m looking for reasonable tick prevention for my dogs. What are some effective solutions y’all use?
Thanks in advance.

Smoking Stump Farm - @smokingstumpfarm

I use Simperica and have had good luck. I live in southeast Georgia, not too far from the Okeefenokee Swamp. But if you plan to breed your dog, you need to take them off of it 2-3 weeks prior to breeding.

Gun Dog Chat - @gundogchat

Hi Sarah. We give our dogs NexGuard Plus, it's prevention for both Fleas and Ticks, plus Heartworms, Hookworms and Roundworms. You do have to have a prescription. It works great for our dogs, but I'm not sure how reasonable priced it is. Usually if you buy several months at a time, they'll offer a discount. If you need something cheaper, you might try a Fipronil based product, like PetArmor.
